Barrie Construction Association (BCA) executive director Alison Smith has sent the following note to BCA members:

The Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP) is a school-to-work program that opens the door for students to learn about the trades through cooperative education. Students have the opportunity to become registered apprentices and work toward their journeyperson certification while at the same time completing their secondary school diploma. Currently, students have the opportunity to be exposed to approximately 150 trades through OYAP.

The OYAP coordinators with the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board (SMCDSB) and the Simcoe County District School Board will be coordinating a Skilled Trades Expo on June 8th at the Elmvale Community Arena. This is a one-day interactive event that will showcase skilled trades to grades 7 and 8 students and female high school students within Simcoe County (and the Muskoka District for SMCDSB).

The purpose of the event is to get youth excited about the trades.

If you would like to participate by having a presence at the event please contact either Sarah Kekewich or Wade Tower.
