A dozen Barrie Construction Association members participated in a round table regional labor-management health and safety committee meeting with Infrastructure Health and Safety Association (IHSA) president and CEO Al Beattie in June.

Beattie distributed a report from the expert advisory panel on occupational health and safety, listing 11 recommendations and reminded members of the Health and Safety at Work poster, which must be displayed by October of this year. Beattie also discussed the IHSA’s strategic plan and discussed the Certificate of Recognition (COR) program.

Other discussion centred around fall protection CSA standards, the Ministry of Labour report to the Provincial Labour-Management Health and Safety Committee (PLMHSC) and an update on the stage collapse in Downsview.

Committee members received briefings about drill rigs MTCU classification, pump truck staging areas, proposed Ontario Building Code changes regarding roof anchors and the use of MTO electronic highway signs for safety culture messages.
