A north-end parking lot at Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre will eventually make way for a new four-storey medical office building after Barrie city council approved the project’s site plan.
Final site plan approval was granted in May for the development at 135 Dunsmore Ln. The 9,000-square-metre medical building will be built on an existing staff parking lot, expanding outpatient health services and physician office space.
The project is designed to provide additional space for physicians and outpatient care adjacent to the hospital.
Construction will eliminate more than 160 parking spaces on the site. Also, 29 trees will be removed and under the city’s tree protection policy, about $16,000 will be paid in compensation.
The project is part of ongoing efforts to support growing demand for health-care services in Barrie and the surrounding region by expanding medical facilities on lands adjacent to RVH.
