Barrie Construction Association (BCA) executive director Alison Smith has posted her annual message. Here it is:

Dear BCA Members:

Each year at this time, I pause to collect my thoughts for this report. I am reminded just how fortunate I am to serve as your executive director. I am both proud and humbled by the scope of what your dynamic board, your wonderful staff and you, the dedicated members have achieved together. Thanks to you, the association consistently moves forward into a bright future.

In the upcoming year I will be meeting with as many members as I possibly can. I value your experiences, and I want to hear from you about your business, how the BCA can better support your business, what you value about the BCA and what you would like to see us improve upon.

It really is about relationships. Constructing and maintaining relationships with our members and local buyers of construction is the key driver to every decision made by the board of directors.

Last June, your board of directors engaged in a full-day board retreat. Items of concern were looked at in-depth, including expanding relationships with public and private buyers, scholarships, fundraising initiatives, marketing goals and our member value proposition.

Our 2017 board and staff commitments to you as a BCA Member include improving our services to you with networking events, continuing education courses, ongoing development of relationships with public and private buyers of construction and expansion of our affinity program – bringing relevant discounts to our members.

We will continue to represent you – Advocate and collaborate on your behalf with all relevant departments of the City of Barrie, Municipalities, Infrastructure Ontario, the Ontario Government and Ontario local construction associations.

I invite you to read the attached BCA Year End Report 2016 which highlights the business of the BCA in 2016 and how your membership dollars were utilized and it will give you a glimpse of what the board and staff will be undertaking in the coming year. I encourage you to contact the board or myself with any comments or concerns and to let us know how we can help you.

Finally and in closing, I along with my staff and the Board of Directors wish you, your families and employees a Happy and prosperous New Year.
