BARRIE – Barrie’s southeast community now has a modern facility to meet its growing emergency service needs with the opening of Barrie Fire and Emergency Service (BFES) Station 6.
Located at 845 Mapleview Drive East, at the corner of Mapleview Drive East and Prince William Way, the station is strategically positioned to reduce response times and provide enhanced protection for residents and businesses.
After a competitive pre-qualification procurement process, Verly Construction Group was awarded the contract to build the $12 million fire station. The building permit for the facility has been issued, and the construction fence has been installed on site. Site work is now underway.
The state-of-the-art facility is equipped with modern firefighting equipment and technology to improve emergency response efficiency. Sustainable design features, including energy-efficient systems, make the building fully electrically powered and solar-ready, reducing operational costs and minimizing carbon emissions. The station also includes individual pod rooms with lockers and washrooms for staff.
Station 6 is staffed by 20 firefighters and includes a garage bay with space for two aerial fire trucks. It supports BFES in meeting the city’s goal of reaching emergency calls within six minutes, 90 per cent of the time.
A public Open House at Station 6 is scheduled for Friday, November 28, from 6 to 8 p.m. The free, family-friendly event will offer station tours, safety tips for holiday decorating and cooking, and opportunities to see fire trucks and equipment up close.
The new fire station marks a significant investment in Barrie’s emergency services infrastructure and strengthens protection for the growing population in the southeast area.
