BCA partners with SCHCA to promote skilled trades
The BCA partnered with the Simcoe County Heavy Construction Association (SCHCA) last October, to promote skilled trades as a viable career option at the third annual Construction Career Day.
Students were offered a ‘one-of-a-kind’ experience. Select high school students from the Simcoe County District School Board and the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board visited both civil and commercial construction sites in Barrie.
The BCA has a Skilled Trades Promotion Committee that works to raise the profile and awareness of skilled trades as a viable career option. This committee will be meeting regularly, to find new ways to encourage students to enter into the trades.
As part of this mandate, every high school guidance department in Simcoe County was visited during the recent school year.
Material promoting the trades was provided, so that guidance counsellors have the tools they need to encourage students to consider a skilled trades career.
