The Ontario Construction Secretariat (OCS) reports that total permit values in Barrie’s ICI industry declined 30 per cent compared to the January-July period last year.
This decline was led by the commercial sector which saw permit values fall by 59 per cent.
“Despite the overall decline, permit values in Barrie’s industrial and institutional sectors both increased,” OCS said in its report.
“Permit values in Barrie’s industrial sector more than tripled compared to last year and reached their highest point since a major water treatment plant was constructed eight years ago. This year’s industrial gains were largely due to two new warehousing projects, one of which accounted for half of the total industrial permit values. In the institutional sector, permit values increased by 23 per cent. A $9 million secondary school addition accounted for the majority of institutional permit values.”
