The new BCA Young Leaders Group is thriving and has grown to 20 to 25 members from about 15 different companies from its start in March.

“When you go through our group participants you will see company owners and key personnel from general contractors, road builders, engineers, and many more,” said co-chair Joshua O’Connor.

The group meets monthly. Goals are to to develop and promote networking, professional development and leadership opportunities among young construction industry professionals.

“As this group grows it will be a great opportunity for both individual growth, networking, and business development,” O’Connor said. “Being involved from an early stage will also help be a pioneer in shaping the direction of the group.”

“We value the potential of networking in developing our young leaders of today into the future leaders and executives of tomorrow,” he  said.

Members are 40 or under and working in any role at a business, organization or employer in the construction industry, including:

  • Owners, architects, engineers, contractors, subcontractors, manufacturers and suppliers;
  • Managers, supervisors, safety professionals, project managers, superintendents, estimators and labourers;
  • Administrative, accounting, sales and HR;
  • Government agencies; and
  • Students/apprentices.

BCA membership is not mandatory to join the Young Leaders Group.

“The BCA is dedicated to helping the Simcoe County construction sector grow and succeed, and the next generation of construction leaders are essential to this growth,” O’Connor said.

BCA’s Young Leaders group is all about engaging, connecting and building leaders for their future in the industrial, commercial and institutional construction industry.

Through a variety of educational seminars, training and workshops with special guest speakers, the group encourages professional networking and social activities for young leaders.

“It’s a great opportunity to build your profile by supporting community and charity events, share information, news and best practices and promote leadership and career opportunities within the industry,” he said.

Young leaders are encouraged to “have a voice” and have fun.

Meetings are held the third Tuesday of every month from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the BCA office, 200 Brock St.
