As the holiday season approaches and food banks across the region brace for heightened demand, the Barrie Construction Association (BCA) is once again rallying the local construction community to step up and help ensure no one goes hungry this winter.
The association has launched its annual BCA Food Bank Challenge, encouraging members to donate directly to any local food bank of their choice. For every dollar contributed by members, BCA will match donations up to $2,000. The campaign runs until Dec. 24, with all participating companies recognized in the BCA newsletter and on its social media channels.
Food banks in communities across Ontario continue to see rising demand as families struggle with the rising cost of living and the added pressures of the holiday season. Many rely on volunteers—more than 215 individuals in Barrie alone—to collect donations, stock shelves, serve clients and deliver food to households facing barriers to access.
While the challenge is coordinated through the BCA, Ontario Construction News encourages readers across Ontario to support their own local food banks. Whether in large cities or small communities, food banks everywhere are experiencing record demand, and even a small contribution can make a meaningful difference for families in need.
This year, Ontario Construction News is highlighting its support by making its own annual donation to the campaign.

The BCA is also reminding community members that food banks are in constant need of volunteers to help fulfill their mandate of creating “A community where no one is hungry.”
