The Barrie Construction Association, in partnership with Dooley Lucenti, will be presenting a free seminar to members called Lien Essentials, on December 7.
An announcement about the event says: “Ontario’s contractors have waited for more than 32 long years for reform of Ontario’s Construction Lien Act. The wait may be over.”
Now that the Construction Lien Act Review has been completed, Dooley Lucenti partners Eric Gionet and Scott Fairley will walk members through what it all means, and how the review’s recommendations will impact contractors.
The review has resulted in 100 recommendations covering topics from prompt payment and adjudication to amending the formula for substantial completion and extending the deadline to perfect a lien from 45 to 90 days.
Expected topics include breach of trust claims; holdback obligations; the what, when and how of lien claims; and what actions to take when lien rights are lost.
