Mapleview Drive East reopened to through traffic Oct. 8, more than six weeks ahead of schedule, as construction continues on a major road and infrastructure improvement project.
The road was originally scheduled to reopen Nov. 20. The closure was required for work that included replacing a box culvert at Hewitt’s Creek.
Motorists should continue to expect temporary lane closures, lane restrictions and delays while crews complete the remaining work.
The project includes installing concrete centre medians at the Royal Jubilee Drive/Lally Terrace and Chef Lane intersections. Once the medians are in place, both intersections will be restricted to right-in/right-out movements, eliminating left turns to and from Mapleview Drive East.
The broader Mapleview Drive East Transportation Improvements Project extends from Yonge Street to Prince William Way and is intended to accommodate planned growth through 2031.
Work includes widening the road to four through lanes, intersection improvements, multi-use trails on both sides of the road, new storm and sanitary sewers, stormwater infrastructure and street lighting.
The project also includes traffic signal upgrades at Lily Drive, Kneeshaw Drive and Royal Jubilee Drive, along with improvements at Yonge Street.
Primrose Contracting (Ontario) Inc. was awarded the construction contract. The overall project was originally scheduled to run from January 2026 to spring 2028.
The early reopening applies to through traffic on Mapleview Drive East, not completion of the entire project.
