A 37-year-old Brampton man has been charged with careless driving after a commercial dump truck struck overhead power lines in Barrie’s south end.
Barrie police say the incident happened around 4 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, on Lockhart Road after the dump truck left a construction site with its box in the raised position.
According to a news release, the truck’s raised box struck overhead hydro lines, bringing live wires down and creating a safety hazard in the area.
The collision also caused a power outage in the immediate area and the driver was charged with careless driving. No injuries were reported.
Police are reminding commercial vehicle operators to ensure vehicles and equipment are properly secured before travelling, particularly in areas with overhead infrastructure.
