Innisfil to host public open house on key planning initiatives

The Town of Innisfil is holding a public open house tomorrow (Mar. 5) from 5 to 7 p.m. at Innisfil Town Hall, 2101 Innisfil Beach Road, to collect feedback on two projects: the Official Plan Review and the introduction of the Community Planning Permit System (CPPS) for Alcona and the town’s shoreline.

The town is seeking public input on its transition to a community planning permit system (CPPS), a new land-use planning tool that streamlines the planning process. CPPS combines zoning by-law amendments, minor variances, and site plans into a single application and approval process.

The CPPS will regulate more detailed aspects of development, such as permitted uses, building heights, parking, and other standards. It will be phased in, starting with areas where growth is anticipated. The system aims to simplify the development process and align with the community’s vision for future development, particularly in Alcona and along the shoreline.

“Our current official plan was approved in 2018, but our community has evolved significantly since then,” said Mayor Lynn Dollin. “We need to ensure the plan continues to reflect Innisfil’s priorities and adapts to current conditions. At the same time, we must align with recent updates to Provincial and Simcoe County policies.

“This review is an opportunity to create a plan that better serves our residents and businesses—now and for years to come.”

Innisfil’s official plan must also comply with provincial policies and plans, as well as the County of Simcoe official plan.

At the open house, attendees will have the opportunity to learn about both the Official Plan and the CPPS, ask questions, and provide feedback on the vision, goals, and proposed policies. For those who cannot attend in person, materials from the open house will be available on the Town’s Get Involved Innisfil platform at getinvolvedinnisfil.ca.

Residents can post comments and questions or engage with project team members directly. An online survey for the Official Plan Review will also be available on the platform from March 5 to March 26, 2025.

This open house is an important opportunity for community members to contribute to the planning process, ensuring that the future of Innisfil meets the needs of its residents and businesses.
