The Town of Midland is moving ahead with the next phase of the Midland Bay Landing development, with plans to transform the 40-acre waterfront property into a vibrant, mixed-use, pedestrian-oriented neighborhood. A Request for Proposals (RFP) for a construction contractor is expected to be issued by May 2025, as town staff, council, and consultants from KPMG LLP collaborate with the community to shape the vision for this exciting project.

The project, aimed at rejuvenating Midland and enhancing its historic downtown and harbor, is moving forward with a well-structured, three-phase plan.

Phase 1: Public Collaboration (March – May 2025)

Town staff, KPMG consultants, and the community will work together to create a vision for the development. Public input will be key in shaping the future of the area.

Phase 2: Market the Opportunity (May – September 2025)

Using the vision developed through community engagement, consultants and staff will develop and issue the call for proposals from developers.

Phase 3: Selecting the Developer (September – December 2025)

Council will review and evaluate proposals, ultimately selecting the developer who aligns with the vision and goals for the project.

Residents and stakeholders are encouraged to provide their feedback through an online survey on the official project website or at an open house with the project team April 15 at the North Simcoe Sports and Recreation Centre (527 Len Self Blvd). There will be two sessions: one from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.

The project will revitalize the waterfront, turning it from its former industrial use into a dynamic, mixed-use space. The new neighborhood will feature pedestrian-friendly pathways, public spaces, amenities, and access to the water, enhancing the charm of downtown Midland and its picturesque harbor. The goal is to create a place where residents can live, work, and play while contributing to the overall revitalization of the area.
