Barrie Construction association members raised close to $5,000 in the fourth annual BCA Ride for Cancer in July.

Past BCA president Scott Ward of Mor Control Inc. proposed the motorcycle ride idea to the BCA board of directors four years ago, and received immediate and enthusiastic support.

Unfortunately this year, weather provided some challenges.  The original ride day, Sunday, June 3, proved to be one of the summer’s wettest weekends.  However, on the rescheduled July 8 date, 45 motorcyclists were able to complete the ride in glorious sunshine.

The bikes assembled at The Sarjeant Company in Barrie. “Participants registered, enjoyed free coffee and donuts sponsored by Tim Horton’s, received their free BCA Ride for Cancer T-shirts, route maps and poker cards,” Ward said.  “At exactly nine a.m., the roar of bikes shook the ground” as the riders began their journey.

“The pack stayed together through the scenic route, carefully marked by BCA member John Cuppage of Shouldice Stone, stopping at preselected locations to receive poker cards,” Ward said. “At approximately 3 p.m. the group arrived at their final destination, CRS Contractors Rental Supply, for a fabulous BBQ sponsored by The Sarjeant Company, where raffle and the poker winners were announced. This generous biker donated the poker prize back to the organizers and it was auctioned off helping to raise the final donation dollars to $4,573.”
