Once again Mother Nature gave us a brilliant day on June 7 for the BCA tournament at Bear Creek Golf Course just outside of Barrie in Utopia.
Thank you to Drew and Lee-Ann Moyer, Nicole Summerfeldt, with the staff and the grounds crew of Bear Creek Golf Club, who ensured that the course was in great shape and that everything ran smoothly.
We were honoured to have some special guests come out to play on our president’s team; Ian Cunningham, president of the Council of Ontario Construction Associations and Eric Dean, the Chief Executive Officer of the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre Foundation.
Many volunteers are required to co-ordinate the smooth running of the tourney; Alicia Blow from the BCA, Cassie Frengopoulos of Gerrits Engineering, and representatives from Sunbelt Rentals, Royal Victoria Hospital and Georgian Commercial Fleet Centre were kind enough to help us out.
Every year the tournament is sponsored by generous members. These included:
Charity Hole Sponsor – Calow Benefits Group.
The hole-in-one truck was organized and sponsored every year by Georgian Commercial Fleet Centre.
Sunbelt Rentals sponored the Charity raffle and golf cart raffle.
GTA Construction Report and Ontario Construction News sponsored the Putting Contest while Duivenvoorden Haulage sponsored the golf balls.
The lunch sponsor this year was Powell (RH) Contracting, thanks to Chantal Seguin
The dinner sponsor was Michel Babineau of Ultimate Construction.
Drew Moyer of Bear Creek Golf Club donated a golf foursome prize.
Men’s and Ladies Closest to the Pin contest was sponsored by Dave Rae at Petrela, Winter & Associates and the Men’s and Ladies Longest Drive contest was sponsored by Joel Davis at D C United Roofing.
New on the course this year, Mulligans were sponsored by Robert Kennaley of Kennaley Construction Law.
All of our players arrived home safely thanks to Russ Kerr of Vipond Inc., who sponsored the Designated Driver Service.
A huge thank you to all of our sponsors!
Numerous members sponsor the tournament each year through the support of the hole sponsor opportunity. These donations are greatly appreciated by your fellow members.

All of the charity hole and raffle proceeds ($4,055) were donated to the Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at the Royal Victoria Hospital.
Last year 2,080 babies – including 60 sets of twins – were born at RVH. About 10 per cent of newborns are born premature or require specialized care and specialized equipment is especially critical for these vulnerable babies.
All NICU babies require specialized monitoring equipment, IV pumps and other lifesaving equipment – which needs to be very close at hand in the NICU and sized specifically for infants – for instance, defibrillators used in the NICU require special, smaller pads to help when needed to resuscitate a baby. The BCA’s donation will go towards redeveloping the NICU for additional privacy for families and to evolve the equipment.
