Approximately 45 motorcyclists raised close to $6,000 for the local Canadian Cancer Society chapter at the fifth annual Ride for Cancer on June 9.

Former BCA president Scott Ward of Mor Control initiated the event in 2007.  This year’s ride raised close to $1,000 more than in 2012.

“This year, we had an honorary ride captain – Miss Brenda Devine of Rock 95 – and she led the pack of motorcyclists through a scenic, well-marked route through the Muskokas,” Ward said.  “Staff and BCA board members handed out poker cards at selected stops en route.  These guys take their poker seriously, even opting to buy extra cards at the BBQ at CRS in Bracebridge.”  (John Cuupage of Shouldice Stone helped with route markings, as well.)

“A special thank you goes to the executive director of the London and District Construction, David Baxter, who single-handedly raised $710 and travelled to Barrie to join the ride.”
