BCA members review the Barrs' Motel plans at a site meeting

The Barrie Construction Association (BCA) is partnering with Redwood Park Communities, the Government of Ontario, the County of Simcoe, the City of Barrie and the David Busby Centre to convert the Barr’s Motel at 170 Essa Rd. to furnished bachelor apartments for the homeless.

“BCA members are once again rallying behind those people most vulnerable in our community,” BCA executive director Alison Smith says in a note to members.

“The BCA is proud to offer support to Redwood through their Adopt-A-Unit campaign. Our donation covers the cost to fully renovate a motel room in to a furnished bachelor apartment, complete with kitchen, bathroom, new flooring, bed, linens and curtains.”

Members are contributing time and materials or providing “their best pricing” to make the project a success, and several attended a site meeting on July 19 to see the work that needs to be done. Tenders will close through BestBidz on Aug. 7 at 4 p.m.
