Last April, the BCA partnered with the Simcoe County Heavy Construction Association (SCHCA) to promote skilled trades as a viable career option at our third Construction Career Day. The students participated in a ‘one-of-a-kind’ experience.

Select high school students from the Simcoe County District School Board visited both civil and commercial construction sites in Barrie. Sunbelt Rentals generously opened their doors to further enhance the student’s experience as they toured the yard and enjoyed lunch.

Construction mentoring was delivered by seasoned construction professionals, Scott Ward – Accu-Temp Systems and Blair Chalmers – Rutherford Contracting Inc.

The BCA has a Skilled Trades Promotion Committee whose responsibility is to raise the profile and awareness of skilled trades as a viable career option. This committee will be meeting regularly to find other new ways to encourage students to enter in to the trades.
